5 Simple Tips To Create A Home You Love

Let's be honest, it's easy to become overwhelmed and discouraged when looking at photos of beautifully designed homes with impeccably staged rooms flooding our social media feeds. With inspiration overload, there's always something better one click, swipe or scroll away. So how do we remedy this problem? By shifting our attention away from wishing we lived somewhere else and instead focus on loving the home we have. So whether you're living in your dream home or still dreaming it up, we hope these simple and easy tips will help you feel more grounded, connected, and in love with where you are—right now.

1. Get Organized

There’s nothing like clutter to make you want to be anywhere but home! Good news is these days the art of organization is so much more fun with beautiful baskets and trays to keep your stuff tidy. If you don’t know where to start, tackle one room, closet or drawer at a time and pretty soon your home will spark the kind of joy that would make Marie Kondo proud.

2. Make Minor Repairs

It’s amazing what a tool kit and some elbow grease can accomplish in a productive weekend around the house. Patch nail holes, tighten fixtures, remove scuffs from the walls (it’s called a Magic Eraser for a reason!). You’ll feel so much better when you're not tripping over that loose baseboard or fighting with a wiggly doorknob every day.

3. Bring The Outdoors In

Don’t underestimate the power of plants—not only can they remove up to 87% of air toxins in 24 hours, studies have proven that houseplants also improve concentration and productivity, reduce stress levels and boost your mood! But if you don't want one more thing to take care of around the house, treat yourself to a bouquet of fresh flowers each week instead. Both plants and flowers are an inexpensive way to uplift a space and add a fresh vibe.

4. Set The Mood

Start by asking yourself how you want to feel in your home or in each room in particular. Calm and relaxed? Focused and inspired? Or energized and invigorated? Next, consider the scents and sounds, colors and textures that evoke those feelings in you. Each of those elements become layers that create a mood—so light a candle, turn on some music and experience the shift in atmosphere.

5. Host A Gathering

Creating memories in a house are what make it a home. Invite the neighbors over for game night or host a casual wine tasting with friends—you don’t need to plan an over-the-top party in order to entertain. The key is creating opportunities for connection, filling your space with warmth and love.

“There is beauty all around when there’s love at home.”
